How to get Wegovy, online or in person: the criteria, the prescriber, the tablet, and what each route costs

Yes, you can get Wegovy entirely online: a prescriber you see by video writes it, and Novo's own NovoCare Pharmacy ships the pen or the tablet to your door.⁵ What you cannot do, legally, is buy it without a prescription: "all doses of Wegovy ® (semaglutide) and Ozempic ® (semaglutide) require a prescription", self-pay included.⁵ The ordering steps are in section 3.

Wegovy also has two doors most people do not know about, and both change what you pay. One is a heart indication that some plans treat differently from weight. The other is a tablet that costs less than the pen. The steps are the same as for any prescription drug: qualify, get it written, get it paid for. The doors are where Wegovy differs from everything else on this site.

1. Do you qualify

Two indications, and they are worth reading separately.¹

Weight. "To reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction long term in adults with obesity, or in adults with overweight in the presence of at least one weight-related comorbid condition."¹ The trials behind it used a BMI of 30, or 27 with a comorbidity,² and that is what prescribers and plans apply.

Heart. "To reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular (CV) events (CV death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, or non-fatal stroke) in adults with established CV disease and either obesity or overweight."¹ This is the door Zepbound does not have. If you have had a heart attack, a stroke or have diagnosed cardiovascular disease, Wegovy can be prescribed for that, and a plan that excludes "weight-loss drugs" may cover it under the cardiovascular indication, because the prescription is not for weight.

Wegovy is not for type 2 diabetes. Ozempic is the same molecule in the diabetes box, and the box decides your coverage.

2. Who writes it, and in what form

Any licensed prescriber, in person or by telehealth, with no specialist requirement. The choice you make at this step is the form.

The pen is a weekly injection, climbing from 0.25 mg through 0.5, 1, 1.7 to 2.4 mg, with a 7.2 mg HD pen above that for people who plateau; Wegovy 7.2 mg has the trial and the price.

The tablet is a daily pill, "the only semaglutide tablet that's FDA-approved for weight loss in adults",⁴ climbing to a 25 mg maintenance dose.¹ If needles are the reason you have not started, this is the reason to. It is also cheaper.

The three prescribing routes are the same as for any GLP-1: your own doctor (cheapest with a plan, and the one that will file prior authorisation), a telehealth program (fastest; some dispense branded Wegovy inside a membership, and the ones on our board are in section 4), or Novo's own NovoCare, which links to telehealth prescribers and runs its own self-pay pharmacy.⁵ What the big-name programs charge on top is in what each program charges.

3. Buying Wegovy online, step by step

There are two online routes for the real thing, and they differ in who fills the prescription. Either way, a person with prescribing rights has to assess you first; a site that sells Wegovy without one is not selling it legally.⁵

If you would rather collect it, the tablet can be filled at a retail pharmacy, and Novo's own advice is to ask the pharmacist, before you pick up, "to compare all pricing options": your insurance price, the savings-card price and the self-pay price.⁶ Paying cash for the pen, NovoCare is the route Novo itself points to: "you can fill it through the NovoCare ® Pharmacy and have it delivered right to your door."⁶

One rule decides what counts as the real product. Novo's own words: "If it’s not made by Novo Nordisk, it’s not FDA‑approved Wegovy ® or Ozempic ®".⁵ Compounded semaglutide sold online is the same molecule, legally made by a licensed pharmacy, and it is a different product; the semaglutide online guide sets out what compounders may and may not sell. If you want brand Ozempic rather than Wegovy, getting Ozempic online is the same order with a different label.

When the box arrives

A shipped drug is only as good as its trip. The label's storage rules are the check:⁷

A pen that arrived warm or frozen goes back to the pharmacy that shipped it; ask it for a replacement rather than using it.

4. How it gets paid for

Route A: a commercial plan that covers it

Novo's savings card brings a covered prescription to as low as $25 a month for commercially insured patients, government plans excluded. Prior authorisation is close to universal. Whether your plan covers Wegovy for weight is plan-specific; here are eight insurers in their own words:

Route B: refused

A denied prior authorisation on a plan that lists Wegovy is appealable, and the cardiovascular indication is the strongest ground if it applies to you. A plan-level exclusion is not appealable through the insurer. Which no you got decides the next step.

Route D: a telehealth program that dispenses branded Wegovy

Some programs on our board sell branded Wegovy, pen or pill, as an all-in monthly price. The cheapest today is $208 a month; compare it with Novo's own table above before you pick, because a program's price may include a membership you would not pay at NovoCare. Verified prices, cheapest first:

Route E: Medicare

Novo's $25 savings card excludes government beneficiaries, so on a Medicare drug plan the route is the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, "a temporary federal program that gives eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries access to all dose strengths of both Wegovy ® pen and pill for just $50 per month between July 1, 2026, and December 31, 2027."⁶ It is not automatic: "your doctor must submit a prior authorization request and prescribe you Wegovy ® for a medical use that is covered under the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program."⁶ Who qualifies and how the Bridge works is in does Medicare cover GLP-1s.

Route F: compounded semaglutide

Wegovy's molecule is sold compounded by licensed pharmacies through telehealth programs, at a fraction of Novo's price and without FDA approval of the finished product. The trade is real and it is set out in is compounded semaglutide safe. Today's verified prices:

5. The first month

The pen starts at 0.25 mg for four weeks and climbs every four weeks. The tablet has its own escalation on the label. Either way the gut effects arrive with dose steps and ease within them, and the labels' one instruction is to climb slowly; the numbers are in the side-effect guide.

The honest summary

Qualifying is a BMI of 30, or 27 with a condition, or established heart disease. Any prescriber can write it, as a pen or a pill, in person or online, and NovoCare Pharmacy will ship it. Paying is where the routes split: $25 with coverage, $50 on a Medicare drug plan through the Bridge, $149 for the tablet or $349 for the pen from Novo, $208 and up through a program on our board, or $69 and up for the same molecule without FDA review. Two things to ask before you book: whether your plan covers Wegovy, and if you have heart disease, whether it covers it for that.
