The Wegovy pill, what it costs, and the price that moves on 31 August

Wegovy is now sold as a daily tablet as well as a weekly injection, and the tablet self-pays cheaper. Novo's published prices run $149 a month at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 mg and 25 mg. The 4 mg figure is mid-change: Novo's savings page still shows $149 with an offer expiring 31 August 2026, while its own pharmacy page already lists $199. There are also three different semaglutide pills on the market now, which is the thing most pages about this have not caught up with.

The short version

  • 1The Wegovy pill self-pays from $149/mo at 1.5 mg, rising to $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 mg and 25 mg.
  • 2The 4 mg price changes on 31 August 2026. Novo's own two pages currently disagree about it.
  • 3The tablet self-pays cheaper than the pen, which is $349/mo flat across every standard dose.
  • 4There are three semaglutide pills now: Wegovy, the Ozempic pill and Rybelsus. They are different products at different strengths.

Wegovy is now a tablet as well as an injection, and the tablet self-pays cheaper. Novo's published prices are $149 a month at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg, and $299 at 9 mg and 25 mg, against $349 a month for the pen at any standard dose.1

One of those numbers is changing this week, and Novo's own two pages do not currently agree about it.

The 4 mg price moves on 31 August

Read on 27 August 2026, the NovoCare Pharmacy page says:1

Patients pay $149 for each month of 1.5 mg, $199 per month for 4 mg and $299 per month for 9 mg and 25 mg.

And on the same day, Novo's Wegovy savings page says:2

Patients pay $149 for each month of 1.5 mg and 4 mg. 4 mg offer only available until August 31, 2026, then $199 per month for 4 mg.

Worth knowing

Both of those are live right now. The savings page still shows 4 mg at $149 with a deadline; the pharmacy page has already moved it to $199. If you are on or heading for the 4 mg dose, that is a $50 a month difference and a few days to sort it out. Confirm the figure at checkout rather than from any article, this one included.

We are not going to tell you which page is operative, because we do not know and guessing would be worse than saying so. What we can tell you is the date, that it is days away, and that it applies to one specific strength.

The pill against the pen

For a cash buyer this is the comparison that matters, and it does not go the way most people assume:

Wegovy, self-payPrice
Tablet, 1.5 mg$149/mo
Tablet, 4 mg$149/mo until 31 Aug, then $199/mo
Tablet, 9 mg and 25 mg$299/mo
Pen, 0.25 to 2.4 mg$349/mo
Pen HD, 7.2 mg$399/mo

All quoted from Novo's own pages.12 The entry tablet is well under half the pen. Whether a tablet or an injection is right for you is a clinical question and not one a price table answers, but the money is not the reason to choose the pen. The pen ladder is here.

There are three semaglutide pills now, and they are not the same

This is the part almost every page about "Wegovy weight loss pills" has not caught up with. Per the FDA's own National Drug Code directory:3

PillStrengthsOn sale sinceApproved for
Rybelsus3, 7, 14 mgSeptember 2019Type 2 diabetes
Wegovy pill1.5, 4, 9, 25 mgJanuary 2026Obesity
Ozempic pill1.5, 4, 9 mgApril 2026Type 2 diabetes
In plain English

If you searched for a semaglutide pill and landed on a page about Rybelsus, you were reading about a different product at different strengths approved for something else. Rybelsus is the 2019 one. The Wegovy pill is the one indicated for weight.

Worth knowing: Novo's own cash pharmacy sells the Wegovy pill and the Ozempic pill and does not list Rybelsus at all.

What the sellers we track charge

Novo is not the only route to an oral semaglutide, and the ranking is closer than the brand-versus-compounded gap usually is:

Read that with the $149 in mind. On today's board, the branded Wegovy pill bought directly from Novo costs less than the same branded pill bought through most of the telehealth programs that resell it, once their membership fees are counted. We would rather point that out than not.

What to actually do about the deadline

Three practical things, none of which requires taking our word for anything:

  • If you are at 4 mg, check what you are actually charged this cycle, and again in September.
  • If you are choosing a dose with a prescriber, the pricing steps are not evenly spaced: 1.5 mg and 4 mg sit together, then 9 mg and 25 mg jump to $299. That is worth knowing, though it is obviously not a reason to pick a dose.
  • If you want to be told when this moves, that is what the alert is for. We re-check these numbers weekly and this one has a date on it.

Common questions

How much does the Wegovy pill cost?

Novo's published self-pay prices are $149 a month at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg, and $299 at 9 mg and 25 mg, with one month defined as a bottle of 30 tablets. The 4 mg figure is changing: Novo's savings page shows $149 with an offer expiring 31 August 2026, while its pharmacy page already lists $199.

Is the Wegovy pill cheaper than the injection?

Yes, at self-pay prices. The tablet starts at $149 a month while the pen is $349 a month across every standard dose from 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg, and $399 for the 7.2 mg high-dose pen. Which form is appropriate for you is a clinical decision, not a pricing one.

Is the Wegovy pill the same as Rybelsus?

No. They are both oral semaglutide but they are different products. Rybelsus has been sold since September 2019 at 3, 7 and 14 mg and is approved for type 2 diabetes. The Wegovy pill went on sale in January 2026 at 1.5, 4, 9 and 25 mg and is indicated for obesity. There is now also an Ozempic pill, on sale since April 2026.

What happens to the Wegovy pill price on 31 August 2026?

Novo's savings page states the 4 mg offer is only available until 31 August 2026, after which 4 mg is $199 per month rather than $149. Its pharmacy page already shows $199. Confirm the figure at checkout.

Can I buy the Wegovy pill cheaper through a telehealth program?

Not always, and often not. Several programs resell the branded Wegovy pill, but once their membership fees are counted the all-in monthly cost commonly exceeds Novo's own $149 self-pay price. Our ranking shows the all-in figure for each, checked weekly.
