2 MONTHS ON SEMAGLUTIDE *GLP-1* RECAP // How I lost 20 lbs, misconceptions + my journey so far!
Our summary
Keisha Pettway-Eaves, a creator who is 28, recaps her first two months on semaglutide in this video, which is part of a weekly series she is filming. She says she has yo-yoed with her weight since high school and chose the medication because she tends to overeat even when her food choices are fairly healthy. She reports being 20.2 lbs down at the end of week eight, after losing about 5 lbs in the first week. Her original plan was 20 lbs, which she later raised to 30 lbs before weaning off.

What else the video covers
She says she takes 0.5 milligrams and does not plan to increase it, though she might consider going higher. In her experience the main effect is that she can no longer overeat, and she craves sugar much less than before. She still feels hunger and eats what she wants, but she reaches fullness sooner. For weeks one through three she reports nausea, food aversion, fatigue and constipation, and she says constipation has been her biggest side effect. She also describes a week two stretch of food guilt. She stresses that she is not a doctor and that others should talk to their own doctor.
She disagrees with the idea that the medication is cheating. She says she tracked calories and protein for almost two months, follows an 80/20 approach to eating, works out four to five times a week and walks daily. She stopped tracking about two weeks ago and is still making progress. She says she plans to begin weaning off between 25 and 30 lbs, with a goal of being fully off by the end of February, and she describes visible changes in her face, legs and arms.

- Stopping a GLP-1: what the withdrawal trials found, and what a maintenance dose actually is
Two trials have measured what happens when you stop. On semaglutide, people who lost 17.3% over 68 weeks regained two-thirds of it in the year after stopping, ending 5.6% below where they started. On tirzepatide, people who lost 20.9% in 36 weeks regained 14% over the next year on placebo while those who continued lost a further 5.5%. Both labels are explicit that these drugs are for maintaining weight reduction long term, which is a different claim from finishing a course. A maintenance dose is simply the dose you stay on; the labels do not define a lower one to step down to at goal.
- The best GLP-1 for weight loss, ranked by the evidence and then by the bill
By weight lost, the order is settled: tirzepatide (Zepbound) first at 20.2% in the only head-to-head, then semaglutide 7.2 mg (Wegovy HD) at 18.7%, then semaglutide 2.4 mg (Wegovy) at 13.7% to 15.6%, then the pills. By what you pay, the order nearly inverts: compounded semaglutide from $69 a month, the Wegovy tablet from $149, Wegovy pen $349, Zepbound $299 to $699 by dose. The best one is where those two lists meet for your budget and your plan.
- Tirzepatide vs semaglutide: the head-to-head result, and what the better one costs
They were finally tested against each other. In SURMOUNT-5, 751 adults with obesity took the maximum tolerated dose of one or the other for 72 weeks: tirzepatide lost 20.2% of body weight, semaglutide 13.7%. That gap is real and it is the whole argument for tirzepatide. The other half of the decision is the bill: compounded tirzepatide runs from $85 a month on our board against $69 for semaglutide, and the branded gap is wider still.
