STARTING MY SEMAGLUTIDE JOURNEY *week 1* // First injection, side effects, new appetite + work outs
Our summary
Keisha Pettway-Eaves, a creator who says she has yo-yoed with her weight for years, starts a week-by-week series about taking semaglutide. She says she was nervous but excited before her first shot on Friday, October 4th. She explains that her main struggle is portion control and overeating, even when the food is healthier. She says she was going back and forth on the decision for months, that weight loss is her reason for taking it, and that any hormonal benefit would be a bonus. She asks viewers not to leave negative comments and says she chose to be open about using the medication. She does not share her starting weight.

What else the video covers
Through the first week she logs side effects and appetite day by day. She says she felt only mild nausea, which she rates about 2 or 3 out of 10 and mostly in the mornings. She also reports broken sleep the first night, which she thinks was anxiety, plus fatigue, a nap, and constipation. She says she used stool softeners she bought in Greece and plans to order fiber supplements. She says her appetite dropped but did not disappear. She describes feeling hungry yet uninterested in food, and she often had to push herself to eat. She aims for about 100 grams of protein, a calorie ceiling of 1,400 and a floor of 1,200. Her meals include Premier Protein shakes, a chicken wonton soup, and overnight oats. She also walks the dogs and uses the treadmill.
In her week-one summary she says appetite suppression peaked from Sunday through Wednesday. On Thursday she felt hungrier and a bit hangry, and she wonders if that was her body asking for the next dose. She reports being down 5 lbs and says she mostly sees a change in her face. She says she will take her second shot on Friday and start week two.

- Semaglutide side effects, and what compounding does and does not change
Semaglutide's side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, worst early and after each dose increase. Those belong to the molecule, so they are the same whether it came in a Novo Nordisk pen or a compounding pharmacy's vial. What compounding changes is everything around the molecule. A compounded drug is not FDA-approved, so the finished product has not been reviewed for safety, effectiveness or manufacturing quality, and the FDA has said the enforcement discretion that allowed 503A pharmacies to compound semaglutide has ended. It also usually arrives as a vial and a syringe rather than a pre-set pen, which moves dose measurement to you.
- Stopping a GLP-1: what the withdrawal trials found, and what a maintenance dose actually is
Two trials have measured what happens when you stop. On semaglutide, people who lost 17.3% over 68 weeks regained two-thirds of it in the year after stopping, ending 5.6% below where they started. On tirzepatide, people who lost 20.9% in 36 weeks regained 14% over the next year on placebo while those who continued lost a further 5.5%. Both labels are explicit that these drugs are for maintaining weight reduction long term, which is a different claim from finishing a course. A maintenance dose is simply the dose you stay on; the labels do not define a lower one to step down to at goal.
- Semaglutide for weight loss: which version, and what each costs
Semaglutide is the molecule. For weight loss the FDA-approved version is Wegovy, sold as a weekly pen and a daily tablet. Ozempic is the same molecule approved for type 2 diabetes, so using it for weight is off-label. Compounded semaglutide is the same molecule from a compounding pharmacy, is not FDA-approved, and is what most cash buyers actually take because it costs a fraction of the brand. All three produce the same side effects. What differs is the approval, the oversight and the price.
