150 Pounds Gone: What 2 Years on GLP-1s Taught Us
Our summary
In this video, Christopher and Lorraine Durham of the DOWNSIZED channel look back on two years of GLP-1 treatment. They say they started on the same day, September 29, 2023, after the medication sat in their refrigerator for about a month. Christopher says he has lost 100 pounds and Lorraine says she has lost 50, about 150 between them. They say they are not doctors and tell viewers to talk to their own doctor.

What else the video covers
They describe the early months. Lorraine says she was afraid of giving herself injections and was also worried about the cost, which she paid for as a three-month supply of tirzepatide up front. Christopher says he took Zepbound and Mounjaro and was most worried about the money. Both say the appetite change showed up within the first few shots, and that they noticed the food noise was gone when dinner stopped being an urgent question. Lorraine says she lost weight every week from September to May and reached her first goal of 156 pounds. Christopher says he started at 286.4 pounds and found getting under 200 more meaningful than his goal weight of 190. He says 100 pounds took about 15 or 16 months.
The second half covers maintenance and the long view. Lorraine says she settled around 143 pounds and now takes 15 milligrams, and she says she gets hungry for meals again and treats that as a useful signal. They say they view GLP-1s as a long-term medical treatment for obesity, not a diet. They also discuss side effects they had (fatigue, constipation, skin sensitivity), the claim that GLP-1s are cheating, how their channel began, and what they hope for over the next five years.

Questions this video answers
How long did it take to lose 100 pounds on a GLP-1?
Christopher says it took about 15 or 16 months to lose 100 pounds, and he adds that he is not certain of the exact timing. He says his early rate was close to five pounds a week for the first three or four months, then slowed to an average of around 1.3 pounds a week.
Do you have to stay on a GLP-1 for life?
Both say they personally expect to stay on treatment long term, because they see obesity as a chronic disease that is treated and not cured. Lorraine adds that other people may be able to come off, and they suggest working with a doctor on what maintenance looks like.
What side effects did the Durhams have on GLP-1 medications?
Lorraine says she had fatigue early on, which she links to possibly not eating enough, and constipation, which she now manages with daily fiber gummies. Christopher reports minor constipation, some skin sensitivity and fatigue, and says all of it was manageable. Both tell viewers to talk to their doctor about risks.
What does maintenance look like after losing weight on tirzepatide?
Lorraine says she lowered her dose over time while still losing, then settled near 143 pounds and now takes 15 milligrams. She says she had to add calories back in, and she checks her eating and dose if the scale rises above 143.

Our guides closest to what this video covers, with prices checked weekly.
- GLP-1 muscle loss: how much of the weight is muscle, and what protects it
On semaglutide or tirzepatide, roughly a quarter to two fifths of the weight you lose is lean mass rather than fat: 25% in tirzepatide's SURMOUNT-1 scan substudy, and 25% to 39% across 20 randomised trials. That share is close to what diet-only weight loss costs. Lean mass is not all muscle, and strength held up in the shorter trials. Resistance training cut the lean share to 17.5% in the pooled trials, and expert groups pair it with enough protein.
- Retatrutide: up to 28.3% weight loss in trials, no FDA approval yet, and no legal way to buy it today
Retatrutide is Eli Lilly's experimental weekly injection that acts on three hormone receptors (GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon). In the phase 3 TRIUMPH-1 trial, people on the 12 mg dose lost 28.3% of their weight at 80 weeks by Lilly's efficacy measure (25.0% counting everyone randomized). It is not FDA-approved, has no price, and cannot legally be sold. Lilly plans to file with FDA in Q1 2027. Tirzepatide is the closest thing you can buy now, compounded from $85 a month on our board.
- Stopping a GLP-1: what the withdrawal trials found, and what a maintenance dose actually is
Two trials have measured what happens when you stop. On semaglutide, people who lost 17.3% over 68 weeks regained two-thirds of it in the year after stopping, ending 5.6% below where they started. On tirzepatide, people who lost 20.9% in 36 weeks regained 14% over the next year on placebo while those who continued lost a further 5.5%. Both labels are explicit that these drugs are for maintaining weight reduction long term, which is a different claim from finishing a course. A maintenance dose is simply the dose you stay on; the labels do not define a lower one to step down to at goal.
