Why I quit the Wegovy pill

Patient storyJoseph Cavallaro Jr.3,676 views6:27May 2026

Our summary

In this video, Joseph Cavallaro Jr., who goes by Jay, reviews the Wegovy pill after about 3 and a half months and explains why he stopped taking it. He says he started at 1.5 mg and noticed less hunger and quicker fullness for the first few days, though the effect faded in under a week. He describes minimal side effects at that dose, mainly an unpleasant overfull feeling if he ate too much.

What else the video covers

He says he moved to 4 mg in month two, where the early appetite effect wore off even faster, though he felt he was eating less overall. He mentions paying a cash price of 150 that he says was discounted by Novo Nordisk, and that this was half the price of the 9 mg and 25 mg doses, so he had his nurse practitioner extend him another month at 4 mg. He says his weight stayed stuck around 272 pounds, moving between roughly 271 and 274. He also reports lower energy and feeling a bit off some mornings.

In month four he started 9 mg and says things got worse within a couple of weeks: no energy, a half hour of feeling bad after each dose, mild depression at times, regurgitation after certain foods, and a drop in his vitamin D level from 34 to 22. He began St. John's Wort and a vitamin D supplement, and wonders whether slowed digestion affects absorption. He says he stopped the pill that morning, had eaten about 1,300 calories by 6 p.m., and hopes his energy returns. He says it did not work for him, while acknowledging it has helped others.

Questions this video answers

Why did he stop taking the Wegovy pill?

Jay says he quit after a couple of weeks on 9 mg because of low energy, mood changes, and regurgitation after some foods. He also says his weight barely changed, so the downsides did not seem worth it to him.

How much weight did he lose on the Wegovy pill in 3 and a half months?

What side effects did he report on the Wegovy pill?

He reports feeling overfull after eating too much, lower energy, feeling off in the mornings, mild depression, and regurgitating certain foods. He says these became much worse at the 9 mg dose.

How much did the Wegovy pill cost him?

Jay says he paid a cash price of 150, which he says was discounted by Novo Nordisk. He says this was half the price of the 9 mg and 25 mg doses.

  • Wegovy side effects, and why the top of the ladder is different

Wegovy's side effects are semaglutide's side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, worst in the first weeks and after each dose increase. What makes Wegovy different from Ozempic is not the molecule but the destination. Wegovy is dosed for weight management, climbing to 2.4 mg with a 7.2 mg high-dose strength above it, and dose is the main driver of how pronounced the gastrointestinal effects get. It also carries a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumour risk. One useful fact while you decide whether to push through: Novo's self-pay price is flat across every pen dose, so a slower climb costs a brand patient nothing.

  • Wegovy 7.2 mg (Wegovy HD): what the higher dose adds, and what it costs

Wegovy HD is semaglutide at 7.2 mg, three times the standard 2.4 mg dose, in its own pen. In the STEP UP trial it took 18.7% off body weight at 72 weeks against 15.6% for 2.4 mg and 3.9% for placebo, in 1,407 adults with obesity. That puts it within 1.5 points of tirzepatide's head-to-head result and makes it the strongest semaglutide there is. Novo sells it direct for $399 a month, $50 above the standard pen, and it sits above the normal ladder rather than replacing it.

  • GLP-1 constipation, nausea, diarrhoea and fatigue: the label numbers, and what the labels say to do

The four gut effects are the four most common side effects of every GLP-1, and the labels put numbers on them. On Wegovy 2.4 mg: nausea 44%, diarrhoea 30%, constipation 24%, vomiting 24%, fatigue 11%, against 16%, 16%, 11%, 6% and 5% on placebo. On Zepbound at 15 mg: nausea 28%, diarrhoea 23%, constipation 11%, vomiting 13%, fatigue 7%. They cluster around dose increases, they are the reason 6.8% of Wegovy patients and up to 6.7% of Zepbound patients stopped, and both labels prescribe the same fix: climb slower.
