Our summary

In this video, creator Nurse KP (channel: Nurse Kay Pea) talks about adjusting to life after losing weight on a GLP-1 medication. The video opens with a sponsored segment for Mochi Health, which she describes as a telemedicine service offering a board-certified physician and a registered dietitian for a monthly subscription. She says she has been on her GLP-1 journey for over two and a half years.

General education as published by the channel. Not medical advice, and not an endorsement.

What else the video covers

She describes her own results and habits. According to the video, she went from 300 to 189 pounds, a loss of about 110 to 111 pounds, and she felt the change in her appearance only after the first 30 pounds. She says she bought much of her new wardrobe from Shein to save money and mentions thrifting as another option. She believes losing weight slowly kept her skin elasticity from changing much, and she says she does not work out. She credits water, vitamins, fewer calories, and fewer carbs and sugars for glowing skin. She also talks about body dysmorphia, struggling mentally with acceptance, and finding it hard since coming off Mounjaro.

The rest of the video is a list of tips she offers for keeping up the results: sleep, hydration, a skin care routine, strength training and cardio, staying active, being kind to yourself during plateaus, stopping when full, writing five goals broken into weekly and monthly steps, and self-care such as massages and aesthetician visits. These are her personal views and experiences, not medical advice.

Takeaways

The main points, in the order they come up. Tap a time to play from there.

  1. 2:11 She says substantial weight loss can bring body dysmorphia, and that it takes grace, time, and sometimes counseling to get used to a changed body.
  2. 4:14 She reports going from 300 to 189 pounds and believes slower weight loss kept her skin elasticity from being heavily affected.
  3. 7:47 She says adequate sleep and hydration are central to looking and feeling good, and she describes her own 5 to 7 hours of sleep.
  4. 11:28 She recommends strength training, cardio, and staying active to help with muscle loss and sagging skin, though she says she does not do strength training herself.
  5. 13:29 She advises being kind to yourself through plateaus and stopping eating when you feel full.
  6. 14:31 She suggests writing five goals, breaking each into weekly and monthly steps, and following a consistent skin care routine.

Questions this video answers

How much weight did Nurse KP lose on GLP-1 medication?

She says she went from 300 to 189 pounds, a loss of about 110 to 111 pounds, with 189 being her lowest weight while on Mounjaro. She adds that she did not see the change herself until she lost her first 30 pounds.

How can you avoid loose skin after GLP-1 weight loss?

She believes losing weight slowly kept her skin elasticity from being heavily affected, and she did not notice sagging. She also recommends strength training, cardio, and staying active to tone and tighten, though she says she does not work out herself.

What does she say about stopping Mounjaro?

She says she had to come off Mounjaro and that it has been a struggle, but she plans to get through it. She says keeping up the habits and lifestyle changes is what she relies on to maintain the weight lost.

What tips does she give for the mental side of weight loss?

She says she struggled with accepting her new body and with watching the scale, and that it took grace and self-help for her. She recommends being kind to yourself, expecting plateaus, and writing down goals to track progress.

  • Stopping a GLP-1: what the withdrawal trials found, and what a maintenance dose actually is

Two trials have measured what happens when you stop. On semaglutide, people who lost 17.3% over 68 weeks regained two-thirds of it in the year after stopping, ending 5.6% below where they started. On tirzepatide, people who lost 20.9% in 36 weeks regained 14% over the next year on placebo while those who continued lost a further 5.5%. Both labels are explicit that these drugs are for maintaining weight reduction long term, which is a different claim from finishing a course. A maintenance dose is simply the dose you stay on; the labels do not define a lower one to step down to at goal.

  • GLP-1 muscle loss: how much of the weight is muscle, and what protects it

On semaglutide or tirzepatide, roughly a quarter to two fifths of the weight you lose is lean mass rather than fat: 25% in tirzepatide's SURMOUNT-1 scan substudy, and 25% to 39% across 20 randomised trials. That share is close to what diet-only weight loss costs. Lean mass is not all muscle, and strength held up in the shorter trials. Resistance training cut the lean share to 17.5% in the pooled trials, and expert groups pair it with enough protein.

  • GLP-1 hair loss: what is actually going on

Hair shedding on a GLP-1 is real, and the labels now count it: 3.3% of people on Wegovy 2.4 mg and 5.8% on 7.2 mg, against 1% on placebo, most of them women. Wegovy's and Zepbound's labels both say it was associated with weight reduction. Rapid weight loss is a long-recognised trigger for a temporary shedding phase, after bariatric surgery and crash dieting too. Two things make it more likely: how fast you are losing, and whether you eat enough protein and micronutrients.
