SEMAGLUTIDE || 3 MONTH WEIGHT LOSS UPDATE || Ozempic for WEIGHT LOSS || Wegovy WEIGHT LOSS

Patient storyTRT Veteran16,246 views5:32Jul 2022

Our summary

In this 3 month update, the creator of the TRT Veteran channel describes his experience with compounded semaglutide. He says he has been on it for 13 weeks, which his provider, Matrix Hormones, counts as one full round of treatment. According to the video, his weight loss stalled after the first couple of weeks and only picked up again once he reached 40 units, which he equates to 1 milligram.

One person's experience, in their words. Not medical advice.

What else the video covers

He reports a loss of 17.6 pounds over the three months. He says he had been stuck for a long time after losing 80 pounds a couple of years earlier through diet changes, calorie tracking, walking and some exercise. He credits semaglutide with helping him get past that plateau. He also notes that he responds differently to medications than many people and takes a significantly higher dose of TRT.

He says appetite suppression did not begin until the 40 unit dose. He then describes a typical day of eating: coffee with protein in the morning, protein-focused foods at lunch, and a dinner built around four to five ounces of protein with vegetables and few carbs. He says he feels full all the time. His reported side effects were hunger at lower doses, constipation that he managed with magnesium, and nausea for an hour or two after injections at the higher dose that faded over time. He states that a regular doctor visit would cost a thousand dollars or more per month for brand name drugs, and he promotes Matrix Hormones with a discount code that he says runs through the end of July.

  • Semaglutide side effects, and what compounding does and does not change

Semaglutide's side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, worst early and after each dose increase. Those belong to the molecule, so they are the same whether it came in a Novo Nordisk pen or a compounding pharmacy's vial. What compounding changes is everything around the molecule. A compounded drug is not FDA-approved, so the finished product has not been reviewed for safety, effectiveness or manufacturing quality, and the FDA has said the enforcement discretion that allowed 503A pharmacies to compound semaglutide has ended. It also usually arrives as a vial and a syringe rather than a pre-set pen, which moves dose measurement to you.

  • Stopping a GLP-1: what the withdrawal trials found, and what a maintenance dose actually is

Two trials have measured what happens when you stop. On semaglutide, people who lost 17.3% over 68 weeks regained two-thirds of it in the year after stopping, ending 5.6% below where they started. On tirzepatide, people who lost 20.9% in 36 weeks regained 14% over the next year on placebo while those who continued lost a further 5.5%. Both labels are explicit that these drugs are for maintaining weight reduction long term, which is a different claim from finishing a course. A maintenance dose is simply the dose you stay on; the labels do not define a lower one to step down to at goal.

  • Semaglutide for weight loss: which version, and what each costs

Semaglutide is the molecule. For weight loss the FDA-approved version is Wegovy, sold as a weekly pen and a daily tablet. Ozempic is the same molecule approved for type 2 diabetes, so using it for weight is off-label. Compounded semaglutide is the same molecule from a compounding pharmacy, is not FDA-approved, and is what most cash buyers actually take because it costs a fraction of the brand. All three produce the same side effects. What differs is the approval, the oversight and the price.
