Our summary

In this video, Lauren Brazee gives an update after eight weeks on Mounjaro and shows a weigh-in while getting ready at home. She says she weighed in at 309 point something and has lost 30 pounds since she began weighing in on her channel. She says she is about eight pounds from getting under 300, and that she had weighed 360 pounds at an earlier point.

What else the video covers

Much of the video is about how daily life has changed, according to her. She says she exercises four or five days a week at the gym and takes the dog on a long walk every day. She describes bath time for her kids, going upstairs, getting in her car and running after her toddler as easier than before. She also says she feels more comfortable in public and in her own body, and that she has noticed less facial hair, though she says she does not know if that relates to her diet or insulin resistance. She is working on her relationship with food in therapy so that a food addiction does not shift into something else.

On the medication itself, she says she has had no trouble filling it and knows of no shortages among people around her. She says she does not plan to stop. In her view, someone with insulin resistance like hers would likely regain some weight after stopping, and she says she has been told she needs the medication to regulate her blood sugar. Her stated plan is to stay on it until further notice while building healthy habits, continuing therapy and exercising. She closes by encouraging viewers to do one good thing for themselves each day.

  • Mounjaro for weight loss, and why Zepbound exists

Mounjaro is tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is the same molecule from the same maker, approved for weight management, and it goes to the same 15 mg. So unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, there is no dose ceiling pushing you from one to the other: the reason people move is coverage and cash price, not strength. Using Mounjaro for weight is off-label and a prescriber's decision. In the one head-to-head trial, tirzepatide beat semaglutide, 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7%.

  • How to get Mounjaro: the diabetes route, and why the weight route is a different box

Mounjaro is approved for type 2 diabetes in adults and children from 10, and Lilly's own site says it is not a weight-loss drug. With a diabetes diagnosis, any prescriber can write it and a commercial plan that covers it brings it to $25 with Lilly's card. Without diabetes, a prescriber can write it off-label, but no insurer will cover it and LillyDirect self-pay starts at $499 a month, against a list price of $1,112.16 per fill. The same tirzepatide in the Zepbound box is approved for weight, plan-coverable, and sold direct for $299 to $699.

  • Mounjaro side effects: the label's numbers by dose, the low blood sugar risk, and how tirzepatide compares at weight-loss doses

On Mounjaro's own label, the common side effects are stomach ones and they rise with the dose: nausea in 12, 15 and 18 percent of people at 5, 10 and 15 mg against 4 percent on placebo, diarrhea 12 to 17 against 9, and any gastrointestinal reaction in 37 to 44 percent against 20. Most of it happens while the dose is being raised and fades. Low blood sugar is rare on Mounjaro alone and is mainly a risk when it is added to insulin or a sulfonylurea. Below: the full table, the rare warnings, and why Zepbound's numbers for the same molecule look higher.
