I transformed in 6 Months on Mounjaro: The Honest Review (With Before & After Photos)
Our summary
Gordon, who runs the FatOldClimber channel, reviews his first six months on Mounjaro (tirzepatide), starting with his first injection on November 11, 2024. He says he is not a doctor or pharmacist and that nothing in the video is advice. He explains that he had lost weight before with intermittent fasting, calorie counting, low-carb and carnivore diets but could not keep it off, and he names food noise as his main problem. He says the drug did not make him lose weight by itself. In his account it removed the constant urge to eat, and he describes noticing by day two that his food noise had gone.

What else the video covers
He describes eating mostly two packaged supermarket meals, a pea and spinach soup and a shepherd's pie, within an 18:6 intermittent fasting pattern. On dosing, he says he used 2.5 mg for five weeks, 5 mg for three weeks, 7.5 mg for 12 weeks, then briefly 10 mg. He later settled on 7.5 mg every five days because he felt the effect fading by the end of a seven-day week. He also explains short dosing, which he says lets him draw smaller doses from a larger pen, and the so-called fifth or golden dose, which he says gives him 12 injections of 7.5 mg from a 15 mg pen.
Gordon reports losing 73 lb (33 kg), about 24% of his starting weight, with 12 inches off his waist, five trouser sizes and less knee pain. He says his climbing has improved and he managed a first pull-up. He plans to stay on 7.5 mg for about three more months, explore alternate day and extended fasting, and taper off later, though he says he does not know whether the weight will stay off. He says he would not recommend the drug to someone only slightly overweight and urges viewers to talk to a doctor.

Questions this video answers
How much weight did Gordon lose in 6 months on Mounjaro?
He says he lost just over five stone, 73 lb (33 kg), which he puts at 24% of his starting weight. He reports 45 lb (20 kg) in the first three months and a further 28 lb in the next three.
What Mounjaro doses did he take over 6 months?
He says he took 2.5 mg for five weeks, 5 mg for three weeks and 7.5 mg for 12 weeks. He then moved briefly to 10 mg and now takes 7.5 mg every five days.
What is short dosing or the golden dose with a Mounjaro pen?
Gordon says short dosing means injecting only part of a full pen dose, so a 15 mg pen can give eight injections of 7.5 mg. He adds that leftover liquid after four full doses makes a fifth, or golden, dose, which he says gets him to 12 injections of 7.5 mg.
How does Gordon plan to come off Mounjaro?
He says he plans to taper by gradually lowering the amount and frequency rather than stopping suddenly. He does not expect to start for at least three months and says he does not know whether the weight will stay off.

- Mounjaro for weight loss, and why Zepbound exists
Mounjaro is tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is the same molecule from the same maker, approved for weight management, and it goes to the same 15 mg. So unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, there is no dose ceiling pushing you from one to the other: the reason people move is coverage and cash price, not strength. Using Mounjaro for weight is off-label and a prescriber's decision. In the one head-to-head trial, tirzepatide beat semaglutide, 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7%.
- Mounjaro side effects: the label's numbers by dose, the low blood sugar risk, and how tirzepatide compares at weight-loss doses
On Mounjaro's own label, the common side effects are stomach ones and they rise with the dose: nausea in 12, 15 and 18 percent of people at 5, 10 and 15 mg against 4 percent on placebo, diarrhea 12 to 17 against 9, and any gastrointestinal reaction in 37 to 44 percent against 20. Most of it happens while the dose is being raised and fades. Low blood sugar is rare on Mounjaro alone and is mainly a risk when it is added to insulin or a sulfonylurea. Below: the full table, the rare warnings, and why Zepbound's numbers for the same molecule look higher.
- The best GLP-1 for weight loss, ranked by the evidence and then by the bill
By weight lost, the order is settled: tirzepatide (Zepbound) first at 20.2% in the only head-to-head, then semaglutide 7.2 mg (Wegovy HD) at 18.7%, then semaglutide 2.4 mg (Wegovy) at 13.7% to 15.6%, then the pills. By what you pay, the order nearly inverts: compounded semaglutide from $69 a month, the Wegovy tablet from $149, Wegovy pen $349, Zepbound $299 to $699 by dose. The best one is where those two lists meet for your budget and your plan.
