Down 21lbs in my first 2 months on Mounjaro! GLP-1 Journey, Weight-loss, Tirzepatide; Kiala Greens

Patient storyKeeping Up with Keisha 64,533 views17:24Jun 2024

Our summary

In this two-month update, Keisha says she started her injections on April 25th and has been on the lowest dose, 2.5 milligrams of tirzepatide, the active ingredient she names as being in Mounjaro. She reports being down 21 lbs after two months, after hitting 20 lbs a few days earlier. She had set 20 lbs in two months as a personal goal, which she describes as halfway to her target.

What else the video covers

She explains that in her previous update she felt she had hit a stall and was experiencing a lot of symptoms, and had planned to increase her dose. Since then she says she returned to a routine of daily electrolytes, electrolyte water and at least 80 ounces of water a day. She also began taking Kiala greens, a powdered greens mix in the Tropical Splash flavor, mixed with 8 to 10 ounces of water. She says she noticed better energy, less bloating and good digestion, and she compares it with other greens she has tried. She says she lost another four or five lbs in about two weeks.

Keisha says she plans to order 2.5 milligrams again rather than move up, since she defines a stall as roughly three to four weeks without weight loss. She says that at this pace she would reach her goal weight around the end of August. She reminds viewers that everyone's body is different, that the starter dose is meant to introduce the body to the medication, and that people should not compare their results with hers. She mentions a possible follow-up video on ten things to implement.

Our guides closest to what this video covers, with prices checked weekly.

  • Mounjaro for weight loss, and why Zepbound exists

Mounjaro is tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is the same molecule from the same maker, approved for weight management, and it goes to the same 15 mg. So unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, there is no dose ceiling pushing you from one to the other: the reason people move is coverage and cash price, not strength. Using Mounjaro for weight is off-label and a prescriber's decision. In the one head-to-head trial, tirzepatide beat semaglutide, 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7%.

  • Mounjaro side effects: the label's numbers by dose, the low blood sugar risk, and how tirzepatide compares at weight-loss doses

On Mounjaro's own label, the common side effects are stomach ones and they rise with the dose: nausea in 12, 15 and 18 percent of people at 5, 10 and 15 mg against 4 percent on placebo, diarrhea 12 to 17 against 9, and any gastrointestinal reaction in 37 to 44 percent against 20. Most of it happens while the dose is being raised and fades. Low blood sugar is rare on Mounjaro alone and is mainly a risk when it is added to insulin or a sulfonylurea. Below: the full table, the rare warnings, and why Zepbound's numbers for the same molecule look higher.

  • Retatrutide: up to 28.3% weight loss in trials, no FDA approval yet, and no legal way to buy it today

Retatrutide is Eli Lilly's experimental weekly injection that acts on three hormone receptors (GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon). In the phase 3 TRIUMPH-1 trial, people on the 12 mg dose lost 28.3% of their weight at 80 weeks by Lilly's efficacy measure (25.0% counting everyone randomized). It is not FDA-approved, has no price, and cannot legally be sold. Lilly plans to file with FDA in Q1 2027. Tirzepatide is the closest thing you can buy now, compounded from $85 a month on our board.
