FIRST MONTH RESULTS WEGOVY

Patient storyInger Williams23,060 views8:07Feb 2022

Our summary

Inger Williams, a creator who documents her weekly Wegovy injections, uses this video to wrap up her first month on the medication. She says she has now completed four weeks of injections at 0.5 mg and will pick up her next set the following day, which will be 1 mg. She says the higher dose worries her a little.

One person's experience, in their words. Not medical advice.

What else the video covers

She describes the week after her previous shot. The morning after, she says, she still felt unwell and had barely eaten for about three days. By lunchtime she felt hungry enough for a grilled chicken sandwich and managed about three bites. She says eating something helped her feel better right away. Over the rest of that week she says her appetite was a bit stronger and she could eat more than in the prior couple of weeks. She also reports that her blood sugar numbers are still running well and that she kept up a 30 minute workout, though not every night.

She gives her weigh-ins as 203 at the start, 196 after one week, 189 after two weeks and 185 this week, which she totals at about 18 pounds lost in the first month. She says she has fewer sweet cravings and was able to control herself at a restaurant dinner with her husband. She rates the first month 10 out of 10, says she may need about one more month to reach her goal, and does not plan to stay on the medication forever. She also demonstrates her last 0.5 mg injection, describing the two clicks of the pen and switching arms. She says she is not a doctor.

Questions this video answers

How much weight did she lose in the first month on Wegovy?

She says she went from 203 pounds at the start to 185 pounds at the fourth weigh-in, about 18 pounds. Her weigh-ins were 196 after one week and 189 after two weeks. She says she did not lose as much in the most recent week but did not gain.

What side effects did she describe on Wegovy 0.5 mg?

She says she felt unwell and had barely eaten for about three days after one shot. She says eating a grilled chicken sandwich helped her feel better, and that her appetite improved the following week.

How does she use the Wegovy pen?

She says the pen makes two clicks. The first click means the injection is starting and the last click means the medicine is in. She says she holds it for a couple of seconds afterward and alternates arms.

What dose does she move to after the first month?

She says her next dose is 1 mg, after four weeks at 0.5 mg. She says she is a little nervous about the increase because some weeks at 0.5 mg were hard for her.

Our guides closest to what this video covers, with prices checked weekly.

  • Wegovy 7.2 mg (Wegovy HD): what the higher dose adds, and what it costs

Wegovy HD is semaglutide at 7.2 mg, three times the standard 2.4 mg dose, in its own pen. In the STEP UP trial it took 18.7% off body weight at 72 weeks against 15.6% for 2.4 mg and 3.9% for placebo, in 1,407 adults with obesity. That puts it within 1.5 points of tirzepatide's head-to-head result and makes it the strongest semaglutide there is. Novo sells it direct for $399 a month, $50 above the standard pen, and it sits above the normal ladder rather than replacing it.

  • Wegovy pill vs injection: the same semaglutide, two schedules, two price lists

The Wegovy pill and the Wegovy pen are the same drug, semaglutide. The pill is one tablet a day on an empty stomach with a little water; the pen is one injection a week at any time. Novo's cash price is $149 to $299 a month for the pill by strength and $349 for the pen. In separate placebo trials the top tablet dose and the pen produced similar average weight loss.

  • Wegovy side effects, and why the top of the ladder is different

Wegovy's side effects are semaglutide's side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, worst in the first weeks and after each dose increase. What makes Wegovy different from Ozempic is not the molecule but the destination. Wegovy is dosed for weight management, climbing to 2.4 mg with a 7.2 mg high-dose strength above it, and dose is the main driver of how pronounced the gastrointestinal effects get. It also carries a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumour risk. One useful fact while you decide whether to push through: Novo's self-pay price is flat across every pen dose, so a slower climb costs a brand patient nothing.
