GLP-1 / Zepbound / Tirzepatide Journey | 6 Month update, the good and the bad!
Our summary
Luis Zayas, who says he is 32, marks six months on a GLP-1 medication that he started on November 3, 2025. He says his highest weight was 285 lb, his starting weight was 247 lb, and he weighed 206 lb on the day of recording. That is 41 lb lost, which he puts at an average of 1.6 lb per week against a goal of 1.5 to 2 lb. His goal weight is 170 lb, and he estimates he could reach it around October.

What else the video covers
He describes starting with a free sample box of Mounjaro 2.5 mg from his doctor, who later prescribed Zepbound because he has obstructive sleep apnea rather than diabetes. He says that within about two hours of the first injection his constant urge to negotiate over food went quiet, and that it has stayed quiet since. He reports only mild side effects, such as a knot-like feeling in his stomach after eating and slight nausea. He moved to 5 mg after five weeks on 2.5 mg, calls that a regret, and says he is still on 5 mg with the same rate of loss.
He says he pays $450 a month, picked up at Walmart, and offsets it with $300 a month in insurance money he budgeted and about $200 a month he no longer spends on fast food. He also covers his exercise routine, an urge to rush weight loss that he resisted, the return of normal hunger signals around months two to three, and a 90/10 way of eating that includes about two less nutritious meals a week. These are his personal experiences, not medical advice.

- What is Zepbound? Tirzepatide explained: what it treats, how it works, and what it costs
Zepbound is Eli Lilly's brand of tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection that acts on two hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1. The FDA label approves it, with diet and exercise, for weight reduction in adults with obesity or overweight plus a weight-related condition, and for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. In the SURMOUNT-5 trial it produced 20.2% average weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7% for semaglutide. Lilly sells it self-pay from $299 a month.
- Zepbound dosage chart: every tirzepatide dose, the escalation rule, what each rung lost in the trial, and what it costs
Zepbound has six doses, 2.5 to 15 mg, taken once a week. The label's rule is four weeks at 2.5 mg, then 2.5 mg steps with at least four weeks on each, to a maintenance dose of 5, 10 or 15 mg. In SURMOUNT-1 those three doses lost 15.0, 19.5 and 20.9 percent of body weight over 72 weeks. Direct from Lilly each rung has a price, $299 at 2.5 mg rising to $699 at 10 mg and above, so the chart below carries the dose, the rule, the trial result and the bill in one place, plus the vial and KwikPen concentrations for anyone measuring in units.
- Mounjaro for weight loss, and why Zepbound exists
Mounjaro is tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is the same molecule from the same maker, approved for weight management, and it goes to the same 15 mg. So unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, there is no dose ceiling pushing you from one to the other: the reason people move is coverage and cash price, not strength. Using Mounjaro for weight is off-label and a prescriber's decision. In the one head-to-head trial, tirzepatide beat semaglutide, 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7%.
