I Paused Zepbound for 30 days..Here's What Happened

Patient storyGet Fierce with Leo13,146 views13:18Dec 2025

Our summary

In this video from December 2025, a nutritionist and health coach who also takes a GLP-1 describes what happened when she stopped Zepbound for about four weeks. She says she took 2.5 milligram doses for three months, lost about 18 pounds, then lost her supply when a delivery order was canceled. She chose to stay off through December so she could enjoy holiday meals with family, with a plan to restart in January and a goal of staying within plus or minus 5 pounds.

What else the video covers

She says her weight held steady over the four weeks. According to her, food noise and hunger returned after about two weeks, she craved raisin bran, and she felt a bit more bloated and puffy in week two, which she links to holiday foods and a drink rather than the medication break. She says her constipation, which she found the hardest side effect, went away. She credits not regaining mainly to being more intentional about food and daily movement, such as walking and watching her granddaughter four days a week.

She also gives background on 20 years of yo-yo and low-calorie dieting, which she says cost her muscle and slowed her metabolism, and argues this makes regain faster after stopping a GLP-1 if protein and strength training are neglected. She says she started the year at 207 pounds, began Zepbound at 197 and is now at 179. Her next goals are to lose about 30 more pounds, strength train three times a week, and reach about 8,000 steps a day. She also describes size blindness with her jeans.

  • Stopping a GLP-1: what the withdrawal trials found, and what a maintenance dose actually is

Two trials have measured what happens when you stop. On semaglutide, people who lost 17.3% over 68 weeks regained two-thirds of it in the year after stopping, ending 5.6% below where they started. On tirzepatide, people who lost 20.9% in 36 weeks regained 14% over the next year on placebo while those who continued lost a further 5.5%. Both labels are explicit that these drugs are for maintaining weight reduction long term, which is a different claim from finishing a course. A maintenance dose is simply the dose you stay on; the labels do not define a lower one to step down to at goal.

  • Zepbound dosage chart: every tirzepatide dose, the escalation rule, what each rung lost in the trial, and what it costs

Zepbound has six doses, 2.5 to 15 mg, taken once a week. The label's rule is four weeks at 2.5 mg, then 2.5 mg steps with at least four weeks on each, to a maintenance dose of 5, 10 or 15 mg. In SURMOUNT-1 those three doses lost 15.0, 19.5 and 20.9 percent of body weight over 72 weeks. Direct from Lilly each rung has a price, $299 at 2.5 mg rising to $699 at 10 mg and above, so the chart below carries the dose, the rule, the trial result and the bill in one place, plus the vial and KwikPen concentrations for anyone measuring in units.

  • Mounjaro for weight loss, and why Zepbound exists

Mounjaro is tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is the same molecule from the same maker, approved for weight management, and it goes to the same 15 mg. So unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, there is no dose ceiling pushing you from one to the other: the reason people move is coverage and cash price, not strength. Using Mounjaro for weight is off-label and a prescriber's decision. In the one head-to-head trial, tirzepatide beat semaglutide, 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7%.
