12 Months on Mounjaro: My Honest Truth About Sustainability

Patient storyPhill Double L29,472 views21:47Nov 2025

Our summary

Phill, a creator who runs a weekly update channel, reviews his first 12 months on Mounjaro, starting on 13 November 2024 at just under 20 stone. He says a brother-in-law who looked much slimmer recommended it, and he describes his nerves before the first injection, which he took close to midnight so he might sleep through any side effects. By his account, he had no serious reaction early on, felt less hungry and had more energy, and lost 20 pounds in the first 14 days while eating few carbs.

What else the video covers

He says the first 2.5 mg dose later stopped controlling his cravings. In January 2025 he moved to 5 mg after a stretch of eating a lot of chocolate alongside alcohol-free Guinness, which he links to stomach pain and large sulfur burps. He also reports cold hands (he thinks his Raynaud's disease was unrelated to the drug) and says weight loss stalled in March, when he lost only 2 pounds. By his figures he weighed about 16 stone 12 at the start of March, then reached 16 stone by June 2025 after adding exercise, moving to 7.5 mg and keeping a weekly accountability routine.

Since August he says he has stayed in the 16 stone range, which he blames on inconsistent diet, alcohol and short-lived exercise, and he suspects his new normal weight may sit in the mid-16s. He recently moved to 10 mg, stopped drinking and restarted exercise, aiming for 14 stone. His overall view is that GLP-1 medication is a tool, not a quick fix, and he urges following providers' advice, drinking plenty of water and finding community support.

Questions this video answers

How much weight did he lose in the first two weeks on Mounjaro?

Phill says he lost 20 pounds in his first 14 days. He notes he was eating very few carbs and had stopped alcohol, and that much of it was probably water weight.

What side effects did he have on Mounjaro?

Phill describes sulfur burps, cold hands, a boost in energy, and yawning when he had eaten too little. He also reports stomach pain and bloating after eating a lot of chocolate. He says his experience was relatively mild and others differ.

Can you take a Mounjaro pen on holiday?

Phill says he took his pen to Majorca in his hand luggage so it stayed in the cabin and did not freeze. He adds that it should be refrigerated once you arrive somewhere hot.

Why did his weight loss stall on Mounjaro?

Phill says he has stayed around the same weight for nearly three months. He blames inconsistent diet, alcohol and weekend calorie spikes, and also thinks his body may have settled at a new normal weight in the mid-16 stones.

Our guides closest to what this video covers, with prices checked weekly.

  • Mounjaro side effects: the label's numbers by dose, the low blood sugar risk, and how tirzepatide compares at weight-loss doses

On Mounjaro's own label, the common side effects are stomach ones and they rise with the dose: nausea in 12, 15 and 18 percent of people at 5, 10 and 15 mg against 4 percent on placebo, diarrhea 12 to 17 against 9, and any gastrointestinal reaction in 37 to 44 percent against 20. Most of it happens while the dose is being raised and fades. Low blood sugar is rare on Mounjaro alone and is mainly a risk when it is added to insulin or a sulfonylurea. Below: the full table, the rare warnings, and why Zepbound's numbers for the same molecule look higher.

  • Mounjaro for weight loss, and why Zepbound exists

Mounjaro is tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is the same molecule from the same maker, approved for weight management, and it goes to the same 15 mg. So unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, there is no dose ceiling pushing you from one to the other: the reason people move is coverage and cash price, not strength. Using Mounjaro for weight is off-label and a prescriber's decision. In the one head-to-head trial, tirzepatide beat semaglutide, 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7%.

  • Mounjaro vs Ozempic, and the trial everyone quotes about it

Mounjaro is tirzepatide and Ozempic is semaglutide: different molecules, not two brands of the same drug. Both are approved for type 2 diabetes, and the weight-loss versions are Zepbound and Wegovy. In the one head-to-head trial, SURMOUNT-5, tirzepatide produced 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against semaglutide's 13.7%. The detail almost every page omits: that trial dosed semaglutide to 2.4 mg in people without diabetes, which is the Wegovy range. Ozempic tops out at 2 mg. The famous result did not test Ozempic's dose range.
