OZEMPIC UPDATE! HOW MUCH WEIGHT DID I LOSE IN 7 WEEKS?!
Our summary
Ashley Hawat gives a seven-week update on taking Ozempic. She says she lost eight pounds in the first week, then slowed to about a pound a week. She says she spent two weeks on 0.25 mg, and by her account she did not feel a difference when she moved to 0.5 mg. She reports being down about 10 and a half to 11 pounds after five weeks, which she describes as still good but slower than people around her, including her sister.

What else the video covers
She then says she went from 0.5 mg straight to 1 mg and that it has gone well since. According to the video, she is down 16 pounds in seven weeks, including nearly five pounds in the most recent week on 1 mg. She says her appetite and food thoughts are low, she eats small portions at breakfast, lunch and dinner, and she feels less bloated. She mentions PCOS and says the medication has helped with inflammation and bloating, especially in her face.
On side effects, she says she gets nausea in the mornings when she is hungry and had headaches in the first week, but little of either now. Her main complaint is constipation, which she says is worst for about the first three to four days after each shot. She also says she had gastric sleeve surgery five years ago, regained weight after the gyms closed during Covid, and is now exercising daily ahead of her wedding this year. Everything she describes is her own experience.

- Mounjaro vs Ozempic, and the trial everyone quotes about it
Mounjaro is tirzepatide and Ozempic is semaglutide: different molecules, not two brands of the same drug. Both are approved for type 2 diabetes, and the weight-loss versions are Zepbound and Wegovy. In the one head-to-head trial, SURMOUNT-5, tirzepatide produced 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against semaglutide's 13.7%. The detail almost every page omits: that trial dosed semaglutide to 2.4 mg in people without diabetes, which is the Wegovy range. Ozempic tops out at 2 mg. The famous result did not test Ozempic's dose range.
- Ozempic for weight loss, and where the ladder runs out
Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes, not for weight loss. Taking it to lose weight is off-label, which is legal, extremely common, and a prescriber's decision. The consequence nobody mentions is the ceiling: Ozempic's doses stop at 2 mg while Wegovy, the same molecule approved for weight, goes to 2.4 mg with a 7.2 mg strength above that. Someone using Ozempic for weight eventually runs out of ladder, and switching brand is the usual answer.
- How long do Ozempic, Wegovy and Zepbound take to work? The label calendar and the trial timepoints
GLP-1s act from the first dose, but the labels start low on purpose and step up every 4 weeks, so most people do not reach a full dose for 3 to 5 months. Each dose reaches steady levels in the blood after about 4 to 5 weeks. In the trials, people averaged 10.6% weight loss after 20 weeks of Wegovy's escalation and 20.9% after 36 weeks of Zepbound, with the full trial results at 68 to 72 weeks. For type 2 diabetes, Ozempic's A1C results were measured at week 30.
