Saxenda: Week 4 Results, Wegovy (Ozempic) Compared to Saxenda | Liraglutide vlog

Patient storyWeight Matters12,858 views8:05Jul 2021

Our summary

In this week 4 update on Saxenda (liraglutide), the creator reports losing 0.8 pounds for the week, or 0.1 on the BMI, and 6.6 pounds in total over four weeks. Most of the video compares Saxenda with semaglutide, which the creator says was recently approved in the United States for weight loss under the name Wegovy, at the dose needed for that purpose. According to the video, both drugs were made by Novo Nordisk as type 2 diabetes medications, and weight loss was noticed during the diabetes trials.

What else the video covers

The creator summarizes clinical trial figures. In the semaglutide trial, the 2.4 milligram group lost 14.9 percent of body weight and the placebo group lost 2.4 percent, which the creator calculates as about 12.5 percent from the drug alone. In the Saxenda trial, the 3 mg daily group lost 6 percent against 2 percent for placebo, about 4 percent. The creator concludes semaglutide is about three times as potent for weight loss and is taken weekly instead of daily. The creator also cites a European study in which Saxenda doses of 1.2, 1.8, 2.4 and 3.0 mg led to losses of 4.8, 5.5, 6.3 and 7.2 kilograms, against 2.8 kilograms for placebo.

The creator then describes a personal dosing choice. Their doctor prescribed 1.2 mg, and a pharmacist said the dose had to be increased. The creator disagrees, and says they currently take 0.9 mg by counting five clicks on the pen, at 10 clicks per 0.6 mg. They report less nausea and dizziness than before, some remaining fatigue, and a bedtime dose around 11 p.m. The creator says they found additional trial information that is not usually publicized and will cover it next week.

Questions this video answers

How much weight did she lose in 4 weeks on Saxenda?

The creator says she lost 0.8 pounds in week 4, and 6.6 pounds in total across the first four weeks. She also reports a 0.1 change on the BMI for the week.

How does Wegovy (semaglutide) compare to Saxenda in clinical trials?

According to the creator, the semaglutide 2.4 mg group lost 14.9 percent of body weight against 2.4 percent for placebo, about 12.5 percent from the drug. Saxenda 3 mg daily lost 6 percent against 2 percent for placebo, about 4 percent. She concludes semaglutide is about three times as potent and is taken once a week.

How do you take a 0.9 mg dose of Saxenda with the pen?

The creator says the pen clicks as you turn it, with 10 clicks between 0.6 mg and 1.2 mg. She says five clicks gives 0.9 mg, which is the dose she currently takes. This is her own approach, not medical guidance.

What side effects did she have on Saxenda at week 4?

She says side effects improved, with less nausea and dizziness than earlier. She still has a little fatigue, which she says mostly wears off by the afternoon.

Our guides closest to what this video covers, with prices checked weekly.

  • Generic liraglutide in 2026: every approved Victoza and Saxenda generic, what it costs, and how it compares

Generic liraglutide is real and widely approved: FDA lists eight generics of Victoza (for type 2 diabetes) and three of Saxenda (for weight loss), plus Teva's authorized generic. Pharmacies pay about $739 for 30 days of the Saxenda-dose generic, 43% less than Saxenda itself, according to Medicaid's NADAC survey of 14 October 2026. Novo stops shipping Saxenda in January 2027. Per pound lost, the weekly GLP-1s now cost less.

  • Mounjaro vs Ozempic, and the trial everyone quotes about it

Mounjaro is tirzepatide and Ozempic is semaglutide: different molecules, not two brands of the same drug. Both are approved for type 2 diabetes, and the weight-loss versions are Zepbound and Wegovy. In the one head-to-head trial, SURMOUNT-5, tirzepatide produced 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against semaglutide's 13.7%. The detail almost every page omits: that trial dosed semaglutide to 2.4 mg in people without diabetes, which is the Wegovy range. Ozempic tops out at 2 mg. The famous result did not test Ozempic's dose range.

  • Wegovy 7.2 mg (Wegovy HD): what the higher dose adds, and what it costs

Wegovy HD is semaglutide at 7.2 mg, three times the standard 2.4 mg dose, in its own pen. In the STEP UP trial it took 18.7% off body weight at 72 weeks against 15.6% for 2.4 mg and 3.9% for placebo, in 1,407 adults with obesity. That puts it within 1.5 points of tirzepatide's head-to-head result and makes it the strongest semaglutide there is. Novo sells it direct for $399 a month, $50 above the standard pen, and it sits above the normal ladder rather than replacing it.
