6 Months of Mounjaro | INCREDIBLE Weight Loss Results Using GLP-1 Injections

Patient storyRob236,393 views22:15Jan 2025

Our summary

In this video, the creator marks 26 weeks on Mounjaro. He says he began at the end of June 2024 at 326 lb, which at six foot gave a BMI of 44.3. He reads back through his early journal, where he lists his reasons for starting: feeling better about himself, being fitter and more active, and not having his size limit travel or clothing choices. His goals included clearing out boxes of old clothes, wearing his wedding ring, returning to running and getting out of the 40s in jean size.

One person's experience, in their words. Not medical advice.

What else the video covers

He describes raising his dose from 2.5 mg to 5 mg after four weeks, then to 7.5 mg, then to 10 mg, where he remains. He says he chose not to follow the fastest dose schedule and will only go up if he feels he needs extra support. He reports very minimal side effects, mentions a brief bout of constipation early on, and notes that friends have had very different experiences, including lowering their dose or stopping. At 26 weeks he says he weighs 245 lb (17 stone 7), which is 80 lb lost, with a BMI of 33.2. He says he did not feel on a diet and still enjoyed a trip to Florida, a birthday weekend, Christmas, pizza and chocolate.

He also covers fitness and non-scale changes. He does spin classes three mornings a week, a Saturday parkrun and weekly cold water sea swimming, and says his parkrun times are improving. His watch cardio fitness moved from poor to average. He says he now wears large sizes, donated many clothes, kept one pair of old jeans as a reminder, and wonders how future prescribing rules based on BMI might affect him.

  • Mounjaro for weight loss, and why Zepbound exists

Mounjaro is tirzepatide approved for type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is the same molecule from the same maker, approved for weight management, and it goes to the same 15 mg. So unlike Ozempic and Wegovy, there is no dose ceiling pushing you from one to the other: the reason people move is coverage and cash price, not strength. Using Mounjaro for weight is off-label and a prescriber's decision. In the one head-to-head trial, tirzepatide beat semaglutide, 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7%.

  • Mounjaro vs Ozempic, and the trial everyone quotes about it

Mounjaro is tirzepatide and Ozempic is semaglutide: different molecules, not two brands of the same drug. Both are approved for type 2 diabetes, and the weight-loss versions are Zepbound and Wegovy. In the one head-to-head trial, SURMOUNT-5, tirzepatide produced 20.2% mean body-weight loss at 72 weeks against semaglutide's 13.7%. The detail almost every page omits: that trial dosed semaglutide to 2.4 mg in people without diabetes, which is the Wegovy range. Ozempic tops out at 2 mg. The famous result did not test Ozempic's dose range.

  • Mounjaro side effects: the label's numbers by dose, the low blood sugar risk, and how tirzepatide compares at weight-loss doses

On Mounjaro's own label, the common side effects are stomach ones and they rise with the dose: nausea in 12, 15 and 18 percent of people at 5, 10 and 15 mg against 4 percent on placebo, diarrhea 12 to 17 against 9, and any gastrointestinal reaction in 37 to 44 percent against 20. Most of it happens while the dose is being raised and fades. Low blood sugar is rare on Mounjaro alone and is mainly a risk when it is added to insulin or a sulfonylurea. Below: the full table, the rare warnings, and why Zepbound's numbers for the same molecule look higher.
